Box Score

PORTALES, N.M. - In a 3-0 shutout victory, Eastern New Mexico University limited the College of the Southwest to only one shot on goal on Sunday, Oct. 2 at the ENMU Soccer Field. With their fourth victory in the past five games, the Zias improved their record to 7-4 overall. The Mustangs, who compete in the NAIA’s Red River Athletic Conference, dropped to 4-7 this season.

Anna Funck’s (Jr., M, Amarillo, TX/Amarillo HS) team-leading sixth goal of the season gave Eastern a 1-0 lead at the 25:04 mark. Valerie Noriega (Sr., M, El Paso, TX/Cochise CC) was credited with her second assist of the year as Funck hit the goal from 10 yards out. ENMU’s aggressive offense was also instrumental in the shutout, as Nicole Bregler (So., M, Alamogordo, NM/Alamogordo HS) outshot CSW 8-3, including a goal at the 29:53 mark. Megan Dozier (Jr., F, Midland, TX/Midland HS), leading the team with five assists this season, provided a cross for Bregler’s header from two yards.

After getting a pass from Jessica Rosas (Sr., F, Escondido, CA/Cochise CC), Kara Henderson (So., D, Rio Rancho, NM/Rio Rancho HS) gave the Zias the 3-0 winning score with her fifth goal of the season at 59:09. Former Zia Amanda Vanlandingham faced 17 shots, 11 on goal, as the Mustang goalie. Eastern goalkeeper Stephanie Sanchez (So., GK, Belen, NM/Belen HS) recorded her fourth win of the year. Amy Holtman (So., GK, Albuquerque, NM/Hope Christian School) replaced Sanchez in the second half and recorded a save on CSW’s only shot on goal in the game.

Eastern’s remaining schedule will be Lone Star Conference matches, beginning with Angelo State University on Friday, Oct. 7 at 3 p.m. at the ENMU Soccer Field. The Zias will complete their longest homestand of the season on Sunday, Oct. 9 at 2 p.m. MST against Midwestern State University.
