ENMU Loses in Final Minutes, 1-0, To Northeastern

TAHLEQUAH, OK — Eastern New Mexico University was able to keep Northeastern State University scoreless for almost 87 minutes before giving up the only goal of the game in a 1-0 loss on Sunday, Oct. 16 in a Lone Star Conference match. The Zias dropped their overall record to 10-5 and 3-2 in the LSC. The Lady Reds improved to 6-8-1 overall and a 2-4-1 LSC record.

Northeastern was more effective on offense, outshooting Eastern 14-6. The Zias were able to limit the Lady Reds to only five shots on goal. At the 86:53 mark, Northeastern’s Kacie Hohenberger passed the ball to Charlotte Dinsdale, who hit the winning goal from 20 yards out.

Valerie Noriega (Sr., M, El Paso, TX/Coronado HS) led ENMU with two shots, one on goal, and three other Zias each recorded one shot on goal. Stephanie Sanchez (So., GK, Belen, NM/Belen HS) dropped her record to 7-5 this season and, by giving up only one goal, improved her goals allowed average to 1.57 per game.

ENMU will be back on its home turf this Friday, Oct. 21 for a 3 p.m. MDT match against the University of Central Oklahoma. The Zias will conclude their 2005 home schedule taking on Southwestern Oklahoma State University on Sunday, Oct. 23 at 2 p.m. MDT.
