Box Score

PORTALES, N.M. — With a berth to the Lone Star Conference Tournament at stake, Eastern New Mexico University managed a 0-0 double-overtime tie against Southwestern Oklahoma State University on Sunday, Oct. 23 at the ENMU Soccer Field. The Zias began the day tied for fourth in the LSC standings and improved their record to 10-6-1 overall, 3-3-1 in conference play. The Bulldogs remained in the hunt for post-season play, improving their overall record to 7-8-1 and 2-4-1 in the LSC.

Playing in a cold crosswind, each team recorded eight shots on goal, keeping Eastern’s Stephanie Sanchez (So., GK, Belen, NM/Belen HS) and Southwestern’s Lindsey Crook busy throughout the 110 minutes of play. Eastern was led on offense by Megan Dozier who came off the bench to record six shots, four on goal. At the 62:55 mark, Dozier squandered a penalty kick as the Bulldogs’ goalie, Lindsey Crook, read the kick correctly for the save. Sanchez improved her record in goal to 7-6-1, with a 1.37 goal per game average.

ENMU travels for its final and most important weekend of games, beginning with Texas A&M University-Commerce on Friday, Oct. 28. Commerce is one point ahead of Eastern in the LSC standings. On Sunday, Oct. 30, the Zias will conclude their regular season schedule taking on Texas Woman’s University who trails Eastern by one point in the conference standings.
