ENMU Will Not Advance to the LSC Tourney After 2-1 Loss at Texas Woman’s

DENTON, TEXAS — Eastern New Mexico University came into its game on Sunday, Oct. 30 one point ahead of its opponent, Texas Woman’s University, in the race for the Lone Star Conference Tournament. The 2-1 loss kept the Zias out of the tournament as they finished their season with a school-best 10-8-1 overall record and a 3-5-1 record in the LSC. The Pioneers, in their fourth year of competition in women’s soccer, will advance to the tournament with a 9-8-1 overall record and 4-5-0 conference record, finishing one point ahead of ENMU.

The evenly matched teams kept each other scoreless until the 69:24 mark when the Pioneers took the lead on goal by Romy Luna. Christine Hornisher provided Luna with the assist and a one-on-one shot against Eastern’s Stephanie Sanchez (So., GK, Belen, NM/Belen HS). Less than two minutes later, Eastern’s Katherine Coulombe (So, D, Sammamish, WA/Eastlake HS) took advantage of a penaly kick to tie the game at 1-1. At the 76:18 mark, Emily Meinen took a pass from Luna to score the winning goal of the game.
