Greyhounds Defeat Abilene Christian, 33-30, to Open LSC South Schedule
Benton Rushes for 106 Yards on 24 Carries; Special Teams Provide Key Plays

PORTALES, N.M. — Eastern New Mexico University rallied from a 22-14 deficit late in the first half to score 19 unanswered points, as the Greyhounds opened Lone Star Conference South Division play with a 33-30 victory over Abilene Christian University at Shotwell Stadium on Saturday, Sept. 24. Quarterback Michael Benton (So., Everman, TX/Everman Joe C. Bean HS) carried the ball 24 times for 106 yards and two touchowns, while completing 7 of 13 passes for 89 yards and one additional touchdown. ENMU improved to 3-2 overall, while ACU fell to 2-2.

The ENMU special teams provided several big plays: Lee Price (Jr., PK/P, Holliday, TX/Holliday HS) kicked a 22-yard field goal as the first half expired; Corey White (Sr., CB, Lubbock, TX/Estacado HS) forced ACU to miss its first extra point kick; Tony Johnson (So., ILB, Levelland, TX/Levelland HS) blocked ACU's third extra point attempt; Price's 48-yard punt in the third quarter led to a safety during the return. On defense, Tim Ojeda (Jr., OLB, Banning, CA/Mt. San Jacinto CC) recorded a team-high 11 tackles and intercepted a pass.
