ENMU Greyhounds Lose to Missouri Southern, 1-0 in Overtime

PORTALES, N.M. — The Eastern New Mexico University men’s soccer team lost a physical contest in overtime, 1-0, to Missouri Southern State University in a Southwest Soccer Conference match on Friday, Sept. 23 at the ENMU Soccer Field. The Greyhounds dropped their overall record to 2-7-1 and their SSC record to 1-5. The Lions improved to 3-7, 1-5 in the SSC.

ENMU goalie Leif Craddock (So., Amarillo, TX/West Texas A&M Univ.) was able to shutout Missouri Southern through regulation, providing six saves for the Greyhounds. At the 95:49 mark, just under six minutes into sudden death overtime, Lion forward Neil Stoessel headed the ball into the net from three yards out. J.P. West was credited with an assist on the play.

Each team was whistled for 13 fouls, as play remained physical throughout the match. The Lions received one yellow card, while the Greyhounds were carded three times. Eastern was outshot 14-7 during the contest.

ENMU will continue the weekend with a home match against Northeastern State University on Sunday, Sept. 25 at 1 p.m. MST. Eastern is in the midst of its longest homestand of the season, with upcoming matches on Friday, Sept. 30 against the University of Texas-Permian Basin at 4 p.m. MST and on Sunday, Oct. 2 at 4 p.m. MST against the College of the Southwest. The Hounds will be idle following the CSW match until Oct. 14 and Oct. 16, when they will end the six-game homestand against Midwestern State University and St. Edward’s University, respectively.
