ENMU Edges St. Gregory's 2-1 in Overtime
Henderson Nets Winning Goal in 103rd Minute

Box Score

SHAWNEE, OKLA. — Kara Henderson (So., D, Rio Rancho, NM/Rio Rancho HS) scored from just outside the penalty area in the 103rd minute, sending Eastern New Mexico University to a 2-1, double-overtime victory over St. Gregory’s University on Saturday, Sept. 17. ENMU improved to 5-3 on the season. St. Gregory’s fell to 0-4.

Henderson’s shot completed a 2-0 weekend for the Zias. ENMU defeated the University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma, 2-0, on Friday in Chickasha, Okla.

The winning goal was set up by Valerie Noriega (Sr., M, El Paso, TX/Cochise CC), who
moved past a defender after the Zias won the ball in the midfield. She sent a pass through the defense to Henderson, who placed the ball in the side netting at the far post.

St. Gregory’s opened the scoring in the 23rd minute and retained a 1-0 lead for much of the game. Eastern equalized in the 70th minute on a shot by Anna Funck (Jr., M, Amarillo, TX/Amarillo HS) from close to the end line. She shot with the outside of her foot and scored at the near post, as the ball swept past the Cavaliers’ goalkeeper. Jennifer Goodrum (Sr., M, Ogden, UT/Weber State University) received an assist on the play, as her pass was deflected to Funck off a St. Gregory’s defender.

ENMU goalkeeper Amy Holtman (So., Albuquerque, NM/Hope Christian School) was in the nets for the Zias throughout the contest. She upped her goalkeeping record to 3-0 on the season.

The Zias will return to action on Wednesday, Sept. 21, with a home game against Lone Star Conference opponent West Texas A&M University. Game time at the ENMU Soccer Field is set for 4 p.m. MST.
