Greyhounds Sign Defensive Lineman Marco Ramirez from Plainview High School

PORTALES, N.M. — Defensive lineman Marco Ramirez, from Plainview High School in Plainview, Texas, has signed a National Letter-of-Intent to play football at Eastern New Mexico University. According to ENMU Head Coach Mark Ribaudo, the coaching staff is “excited” about the contributions and presence on the defensive lineman that Ramirez, 6’2”, 290 pounds, will give the Greyhounds. Ramirez was a First Team All-District selection this past season. He previously was chosen Second Team All-South Plains.

Ramirez had a successful senior year, accumulating 34 1/2 tackles, including three sacks. He recovered a fumble and grabbed an interception. Ramirez was credited with three tackles for losses and a forced fumble.

“We’re excited to get Marco here, Ribaudo said. “He played on a fantastic Plainview High School team, one of the best Panhandle teams I’ve seen. Marco was a major contributor on an excellent playoff team.”

ENMU, playing one of the most difficult schedules in NCAA Division II, finished the 2005 season with a 5-6 overall record, including 2-4 in the LSC South (5th place tie). The Greyhounds faced seven teams that were nationally or regionally ranked at the end of the season, including three teams that advanced to the NCAA Division II Playoffs.

Ribaudo is in his first year as head coach and his ninth year on the ENMU football coaching staff. He continues to serve as Eastern’s defensive coordinator and inside linebackers coach.
