Greyhounds and Orediggers Split Double-Header
Crafton Hits Home Run and Triple in Loss to Colorado Mines

The Eastern New Mexico University baseball team improved to 6-0 with a 5-3 win over Colorado School of Mines in the first game of a double-header on Saturday, Feb. 11, but the Greyhounds suffered their first loss of the season, 11-2, in the second game. Eastern ended the day at 6-1, while Colorado Mines finished the double-header with a 2-4 record.

ENMU rallied from 2-1 and 3-2 deficits in the first game, as Stephen Lopez-Barela (Fr., SS, Alamogordo, NM/Alamogordo HS), Tyler Brown (Sr., C, Aurora, CO/Arapahoe CC) and Kelton Hayes (Jr., DH/1B, Guthrie, OK/Northlake CC) each recorded two hits. Mike McDuffie (Jr., 2B/1B, Albuquerque, NM/Sandia HS) added a double, while starting pitcher Evan Courteau (Jr., RHP, Minneapolis, MN/Rochester Community and Technical College) threw the first six winnings for the win. Keith Balderaz (So., RHP, Monahans, TX/Monahans HS) recorded his third save of the season.

In the second game, CSM pounded out 13 hits, including six doubles. The Orediggers allowed just two hits, as starter Matt Thome threw all seven innings. Tim Crafton (Jr., LF, Farmington, NM/New Mexico Military Institute) recorded both of ENMU's hits and scored both runs, as he blasted a solo home run with two outs in the first inning and supplied a leadoff triple in the fourth. Thome struck out nine Greyhounds, while improving to 1-1 on the season. ENMU starter David Swinconos (Sr., LHP, Lubbock, TX/Frenship HS) fell to 0-1, after allowing six runs in four innings pitched.
