ENMU Signs Seven Men’s Soccer Players to National Letters-of-Intent

PORTALES, N.M. — Eastern New Mexico University head men’s soccer coach Carlos Elizondo has announced the signing of seven student-athletes to National Letters-of-Intent. All of the recruits will be freshmen in the Fall 2006 semester. Listed below are players who signed National Letters-of-Intent with Eastern New Mexico University during the first week of the regular signing period, which started on Feb. 1, 2006.

The Greyhounds completed their second year of competition in soccer this past fall. ENMU is a member of the very competitive Southwest Soccer Conference, which is made up eight NCAA Division II teams at universities in Missouri, New Mexico, Oklahoma and Texas. Elizondo, who was an assistant coach in 2004, was promoted to head coach during the spring of 2005.

Dustin Flores
Defender, 6’0”, 155 lbs.
Alamogordo, New Mexico (Mayfield High School)

Flores received three letters in soccer at Mayfield High School in Las Cruces, N.M. He played in the central defense and was team captain his senior year. He was selected First Team All-State and First Team All-District.

Tyler Hart
Midfielder/Defender, 5'9", 170 lbs.
Cambridge, Ontario, Canada

Hart has had a very successful athletic career in basketball, hockey and soccer in high school. During the 2003-04 season, he was selected as his soccer team’s Most Valuable Player and was his high school’s Junior Athlete of the Year. He won the Contribution to Athletics Award honoring his success as an athlete and a scholar. He also has played on several club teams in indoor and outdoor soccer.

Ryan McClanahan
Midfielder/Forward, 6’0", 150 lbs.
Las Cruces, New Mexico (Mayfield High School)

McClanahan recorded 33 goals and earned 53 assists in his soccer career at Mayfield High School in Las Cruces, N.M. Mayfield won the District championship each year during his career. He was selected District Player of the Year as a senior and was chosen First Team All-District during his junior and senior seasons. He was named First Team All-State as a senior. He also played for the Strikers IV team that earned two Regional runner-up finishes in club soccer.

Michael Morin
Defender, 6’1”, 175 lbs.
Bloomfield, New Mexico (Bloomfield High School)

Morin played soccer at Bloomfield High School as an outside defender and a sweeper. As a senior, he was Captain at BHS and was selected to the All-District team. He also was chosen as Bloomfield’s Defensive Player of the Year. Morin also ran track and played basketball in high school. He is a member National Honor Society and has received the University of New Mexico Star Scholar Award.

Patrick Stack

Midfielder/Forward, 5'9", 160 lbs.
Alamogordo, New Mexico (Alamogordo High School)

At Alamogordo High School in New Mexico, Stack played four sports, including four years on the soccer team. He was selected Second Team All-State in 2005 and was named First Team All-District twice. In his sophomore season, he was chosen Midfielder of the Year at AHS. He was selected to Who’s Who Among American High School Students.

Max Stainmez
Forward, 5'10", 140 lbs.
Holland Landing, ONT, Canada (Dr. J.M. Denison High School)

In addition to playing at Denison High School in suburban Toronto, Stainmez played for
three club teams. He is presently with the North York Hearts, after previously played for the Markham Lightning and the Glen Shields Sun Devils. At Denison High School, he was team Captain for four years and earned the Most Valuable Player Award the past three seasons. He was the top scorer for the Lightning in 2004, helping the Markham club win the Woodbridge Showcase in the Under-18 division. Stainmez plans to major in Physical Education at ENMU with an empahsis in Athletic Training.

James Stephens
Midfielder/Forward, 5’11”, 145 lbs.
Albuquerque, New Mexico (Eldorado High School)

At Eldorado High School in Albuquerque, N.M., Stephens played on the soccer team all four years. In 2004, he was chosen Second Team All-District. He played forward and outside midfielder during his career. He will provide the Greyhounds with quality depth at the team’s outside midfielder positions.
