Van Wettering, Jacques, Bancks and Kelly Earn Spots on LSC Commissioner's Honor Roll

PORTALES, N.M. — Junior Kristen Van Wettering (Portales, New Mexico/Portales High School), senior Elyse Jacques (Austin, Texas/Westwood High School), sophomore Cassidy Bancks (Marysville, British Columbia, Canada/Mount Baker Secondary), and senior Erica Kelly (Stockton, California/Tokay High School) have been selected to the Lone Star Conference Commissioner’s Honor Roll for women’s tennis.

Players nominated for the LSC Commissioner’s Honor Roll were starters or key reserves with cumulative GPA’s of 3.2 or higher (4.0 scale). Each player was at her current college or university for at least one academic year. Overall, 20 were listed on the Honor Roll, including seven players selected to the LSC All-Academic Team. The 2006 season saw the Zias reach the quarterfinal round of the Lone Star Conference championship tournament.

LSC Commissioner’s Honor Roll

Van Wettering has a 3.89 cumulative GPA and is majoring in Physical Education. She mainly competed at #5 singles and #2 doubles this season, finishing her second year with the Zias with a 5-4 record in singles, while earning four wins in doubles. In addition, she has played volleyball for three years at ENMU. Van Wettering also was selected to the LSC Commissioner’s Honor Roll for tennis in 2005.

Jacques has been a constant at #1 singles and #1 doubles for the Zias for the last two seasons, notching seven career singles wins. She earned a win over Midwestern’s Faye D’Hamecourt at #1 singles on April 7, 2006. A Computer Science major, she has earned a cumulative GPA of 3.65.

Bancks, who registered a cumulative GPA of 3.35, picked up five singles wins for the Zias in 2006, including three at #4 singles. She recorded singles wins this season against East Central, Grand Canyon, Midwestern State, and Emporia State.

Kelly, a Political Science major with a 3.34 GPA, has played for ENMU four years, posting 12 career wins in singles action and 22 victories in doubles competition. In 2006, she had wins at #2 singles against Western New Mexico and Southeastern Oklahoma, and posted three wins at #1 doubles.
