Greyhounds Sign Offensive Lineman Randy Calderon from Lubbock-Cooper

PORTALES, N.M. — The Eastern New Mexico University football team will be able to improve their protection up front with the signing of Randy Calderon, a 6’ 1”, 270 pound offensive lineman, from Cooper High School in Lubbock, Texas. Calderon, who was chosen as a 3A All-State offensive lineman in 2005, signed his National Letter-of-Intent in the final week of February. He was twice selected First Team All-South Plains, First Team All-District 2-3A and First Team All-City during his career at Cooper.

Calderon, who served as a team captain, also had success on the defensive side of the football. As a junior and a senior, Calderon was named Second Team All-District 2-3A as a defensive lineman. He was a Second Team All-District 2-3A recipient as an offensive lineman during his sophomore year.

“He was an All-State offensive lineman on a very good football team. We also signed the quarterback from the same team. We are glad to have two Lubbock Cooper Pirates joining our team,” Head Coach Mark Ribaudo said.

ENMU, playing one of the most difficult schedules in NCAA Division II, finished the 2005 season with a 5-6 overall record, including 2-4 in the LSC South (5th place tie). The Greyhounds faced seven teams that were nationally or regionally ranked at the end of the season, including three teams that advanced to the NCAA Division II Playoffs.

Ribaudo is in his first year as head coach and his ninth year on the ENMU football coaching staff. He continues to serve as Eastern’s defensive coordinator and inside linebackers coach.
