PORTALES, N.M. — Eastern New Mexico University’s Kelsey Kubik (Jr., RF, Tucson, AZ/Pima College) was selected as the Lone Star Conference South Division Hitter of the Week through Sunday, Mar. 26, after hitting .846 in a four-game sweep of West Texas A&M University. Kubik accumulated 11 hits in 13 at bats, while earning 15 RBIs and blasting four home runs. She provided at least one hit in every game, including two homers in the opener and one homer in each of the final two contests.

Kubik accounted for six RBIs in Eastern’s come-from-behind win in the third game. She hit a grand slam in the sixth inning to cut a six-run deficit to only two runs, then added a game-tying two-RBI double in the bottom of the seventh. The Zias won the game 10-7 in eight innings.

Defensively, Kubik had three putouts and three assists, including an assist throwing out a runner at the plate with the Zias leading 8-5 in the final game of the series. She continued her hot hitting in a double-header sweep over Adams State College on Tuesday, Mar. 28. During the past six games, she has achieved a batting average of .857, with 20 RBIs and 18 hits in 21 at bats.

ENMU leads both divisions of the LSC with a team batting average of .372. The Zias also lead the conference in four other offensive categories, with 293 runs, 425 hits, 74 doubles and 46 home runs. Four Eastern players are hitting over .400 this season, led by Kubik with a .461 batting average. Jessica Nocas (Sr., SS, Riverside, CA/Midland College) has a .437 average to rank second on the team. She is followed by Tina Whitt (Sr., C, Riverside, CA/Midland College), with a .413 batting average and Tracy Jordan (Sr., 2B, Rosamond, CA/Desert HS) with a .405 average.
