Dwight Collins Signs National Letter-of-Intent to Play for ENMU Men's Basketball Team

PORTALES, N.M. — Dwight Collins, a 6’4” guard from South Plains College in Levelland, Texas, has signed a National Letter-of-Intent to play for the Eastern New Mexico University men’s basketball team. Collins played one year at South Plains and helped the team earn a third place finish in the Western Junior College Athletic Conference (WJCAC) with a 10-4 record in 2005-06. SPC was 23-7 overall. Collins will be a junior at ENMU in 2006-07.

Collins averaged 6.6 points per game and shot 43% from behind the three-point line at SPC. Before attending South Plains, he played one year at Casper College in Wyoming, where he averaged 14 points per game as a freshman.

“Dwight brings us a guard with size as well as a legitimate shooter with good range,” ENMU Head Coach Shawn Scanlan said. With the loss of senior Jolen Montoya for next year, Collins will be able to step in and give us the same capabilities in terms of long range shooting skills, but in a bigger player.”

Collins is originally from Detroit, Michigan. He graduated from Crockett Technical High School, where he averaged 21 points, nine rebounds, and two assists per game. The Greyhounds finished the 2005-06 season with a 12-16 overall record, including a 6-6 mark in the LSC South (4th place). ENMU earned a 4-9 record to start the year, but went 8-7 over the final 15 games of the season. The Hounds were 8-3 at home.

Eastern won three of its last four LSC South games to qualify for its third LSC Tournament berth in the past four seasons. ENMU secured the berth with an 84-82 overtime win at Midwestern State University in the final game of the regular season on Feb. 25.
