PORTALES, N.M. — Ashley Davis, a 5’9” guard/forward from Hirschi Math-Science Magnet High School in Wichita Falls, Texas, has signed a National Letter-of-Intent to play for the Eastern New Mexico University women’s basketball team. Davis will be a freshman at ENMU during the 2006-07 season.

Davis averaged about 16 points, four rebounds and five assists per game for Hirschi. She also registered an average of four steals and three blocked shots per game. She scored 32 points against Lubbock Estacado and was named Offensive MVP in District 5-3A this past season. She also was chosen as the Red River 22 All-Star MVP. She was named District Newcomer of the Year as a freshman and was District Defensive Player of the Year in 2004-05. Davis was selected for the Red River All-Star Team three times.

A multi-sport athlete, Davis was a team captain all four years in basketball for the Lady Huskies. She also earned All-District recognition in volleyball and was a Regional qualifier in track and field on the 4 x 100-meter relay team. Her accomplishments also included being named to the Texas Girls Coaches Association (TGCA) All-State Academic Team and earning All-Region Band honors as a percussionist on drums and bells.

Davis was Freshman Class Historian and Senior Class Treasurer at Hirschi HS. She was named to Who’s Who Among American High School Students and participated in several community service projects including the United Way, Meals on Wheels, helping with mentally-challenged individuals through the Region IX Education Center and working with the Basketball Big Sister program. She also was a counselor at a summer basketball camp.

ENMU recently hired Linden Weese as head coach of the women’s basketball team. Weese previously served as assistant coach and recruiting coordinator for the women’s basketball team at Texas Tech University for 23 years.

“Ashley, without question, puts a great athlete in our freshman class,” Weese said. “She will be a versatile perimeter player for us. We’ll be able to move her around and create some match-up problems. I also think she’s got a great chance to be a great defensive player.

“Her athleticism should contribute to our playing the kind of up-tempo style we want to play,” Weese added.
