ENMU Weekly Highlights (Oct. 31 - Nov. 13, 2005)

Football (5-6, 2-4 LSC South)
*Nov. 5 — ENMU defeated Western New Mexico, 47-20
Team set school record with 3,333 rushing yards during the season

Michael Benton (So., QB, 5’11”, 192 lbs., Everman, TX/Everman Joe C. Bean HS)
— 24 carries for 154 yards and 1 TD on a 5-yard run; Long run of 35 yards
— Tied the ENMU record for touchdowns in a season with 17 TDs this year, equalling the record set by Pete Jaquess in 1963
— Has carried the ball 219 times for 1,311 yards this season to break the ENMU record for rushing by a quarterback (1,006 yards), set by Steven Hinson in 2004
— Finished the year just 130 yards short of the ENMU single season rushing record for all players (1,441 yards), set by Tom Manley in 1974

Derrick Hunter (Sr., WR, 6’0”, 180 lbs., Lamesa, TX/Lamesa HS)
— Caught 1 pass for 53 yards and a touchdown
— Concluded his career as Eastern’s all-time leader in pass receptions with 128, pass receiving yards (2,456) and touchdown catches (21)

Cameron Shutts (Jr., FS, 6’1”, 195 lbs., Gilroy, CA/Gavilan CC)
— Recorded 10 total tackles (2 solo, 8 assists) in his first start for the Greyhounds
— Recovered a fumble and returned it 44 yards for a touchdown on the game’s key defensive play
— Broke up one pass

Corey White (Sr., CB, 6’0”, 165 lbs., Lubbock, TX/Estacado HS)
— Blocked a punt to set up an ENMU scoring drive at the Western New Mexico 7-yard line
— Partially blocked a WNMU extra point that somehow still hit the crossbar and went through
— Returned 1 punt for 30 yards

Cross Country
*Nov. 5 — Men placed 8th at NCAA South Central Regional (Best finish in ENMU history)
*Nov. 5 — Women placed 16th at NCAA South Central Regional

Jason Garcia (So., 5’7”, 134 lbs., Alamogordo, NM/Alamogordo HS)
— 20th place; 34:39.75 for 10-kilometer run

Felix Boit (Fr., 5’8”, 130 lbs., Eldoret, Kenya/Samoei Secondary School)
— 31st place; 35:12.45 for 10-kilometer run

Joyce Doan (So., 5’6”, Kent, WA/Pacific Lutheran Univ./Kentlake HS)
— 41st place; 25:05.40 for 6-kilometer run

Volleyball (8-19, 3-7 LSC South)
*Nov. 3 — ENMU defeated Angelo State, 33-35, 30-17, 30-23, 30-20
*Nov. 5 — Abilene Christian defeated ENMU, 30-20, 30-24, 30-20

Lindsay Schiely (Sr., MB, 6’0”, Portland, OR/Clackamas CC)
— Recorded 23 kills, a .525 hitting percentage and 5 total blocks against Angelo State
— Achieved 9 kills, a .389 hitting percentage and 3 total blocks against Abilene Christian

Rhea Wortman (Fr., OH, 5’10”, Prineville, OR/Crook County HS)
— Earned 12 kills, 12 digs and 3 total blocks against Angelo State

Grace George (Jr., MB, 5’11”, Kaaawa, HI/Kahuku HS)
— Recorded 15 kills, a .542 hitting percentage and 8 total blocks against Angelo State

Kristi Britain (Sr., OH, 5’9”, Fort Sumner, NM/Fort Sumner HS)
— Achieved 8 kills, a .375 hitting percentage and 4 total blocks against Abilene Christian

Women’s Soccer (10-8-1, 3-5-1 LSC)
The women’s soccer season ended on Oct. 30

Men’s Soccer (4-15-1, 2-12 SSC)
*Nov. 5 — West Texas A&M defeated ENMU, 9-1

Rob Humphrey (So., F/MF, 5’8”, 147 lbs., Moriarty, NM/Fort Lewis College)
— Scored Eastern’s only goal against West Texas A&M on a penalty kick for his second
penalty kick goal of the season

Rodeo
The ENMU Rodeo teams did not compete during the week; The next rodeo is in the Spring

*Nov. 5 — Fort Lewis defeated ENMU in an exhibition game, 94-63
