PORTALES, NM — Sophomore catcher Erica Sussex (Bloomfield, NM/Bloomfield H.S.) hit a sacrifice fly to center field, scoring freshman first baseman Rachel Mohler (Las Vegas, NV/ Green Valley H.S.) with the winning run in the bottom of the 7th inning, as Eastern New Mexico University earned a split a double-header with Texas A&M University-Kingsville, April 10 at Zia Softball Field.

Eastern rallied from a 6-4 deficit in the final two innings of the second game. Sophomore center fielder Kim Paschall (Midland, TX/ Midland H.S.) reached on a fielder’s choice in the sixth and eventually scored the tying run. Both runs were scored on an error by the TAMUK catcher.

Harrer retired the Lady Javelinas in order in the 7th. Mohler opened the bottom of the inning by hitting into an error by the first baseman. Mohler advanced to second on a single by sophomore shortstop Sarah Rempp (Greeley, CO/Central H.S.), then moved to third on a passed ball.

ENMU had the bases loaded with no outs when Sussex hit the game-winning sacrifice fly. Rempp hit a three-run homer in the third inning for Eastern, while Mohler added a solo homer in the fifth inning.

Mohler now holds ENMU’s single season home run record with 8 homers this season. In the first game, TAMU-Kingsville scored 3 runs in the first inning and 2 runs in the second inning. The Javelinas' right fielder D.J. Weber was 3 for 4 with a solo home run and 2 singles in the game, while Gloria Sandoval hit a 2-run homer, and Marina Gallegos was 3 for 4 at the plate.
