ENMU DOWNS TARLETON STATE, 8-1 ENMU freshman Layla Turner (Casa Grande, AZ/Casa Grande Union H.S.), ranked #53 in NCAA Division II, won the #1 singles flight, 6-1, 6-1 over Tarleton’s Tiffany Woolverton. Turner also won #1 doubles, teaming with junior Julie Stiles (Roswell, NM/Goddard H.S.) to edge Amber Hullett and Amanda Blanco, 8-6. Stiles easily won #2 singles, taking a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Natalie Petersen. Other ENMU winners in singles matches were Rozlyn Gorski (Sr., El Paso, TX/Coronado H.S.) at #3 singles, Makenzie McCravey (Fr., Eldorado, TX/Eldorado H.S.) at #4 singles, and Sarah Pennington (Fr., Sweetwater, TX/Sweetwater H.S.) at #5 singles. Gorski defeated Blanco, 7-5, 6-0. McCravey downed Hullett, 6-1, 6-1, and Pennington defeated Keri Reed, 6-1, 6-1. The TexAnns won the closest match of the day, with TSU’s #6 singles player, Alaina Rutter, defeating ENMU’s Dena Boans (Sr., Carlsbad, NM/Carlsbad H.S.), 7-6 (7-3), 7-5. Boans and Pennington won #3 doubles versus Rutter and Tracy Shaw, 8-3. The Zias’ next competition is at the University of Central Oklahoma Broncho Invitational, Apr. 15-17 in Edmond, Okla.
